Detox
Can acupuncture provide detox to the system?
- Yes, there are certain treatments often used in the beginning of a series of treatments that helps to clear the body of unwanted toxins and clear negative energy.
Stop Smoking
How can Acupuncture help me to quit?
Acupuncture has been shown to:
- Reduce cravings from nicotine withdrawal
- Reduce enjoyment of cigarettes
- Promote a sense of well-being
- Reduce weight gain after quitting by reducing hunger (see below)
How many treatments will it take to quit?
- Every individual is unique and it is different for everyone.
- Usually, if treatments are more frequent in a short amount of time the success is greater.
- It is recommended to have 3 treatments per week for 2 weeks initially.
- Additional treatments are determined by individual needs.
- People are often surprised at how much easier the quitting process is with Acupuncture - even those who have tried to quit before.
Remember:
If you quit, you will make up the money in a few months since you will be saving the money spent on cigarettes. Essentially, the program is free, in fact, depending on how much you smoke; you may have savings in the bank!!!
Will my health insurance cover this?
- Some plans will, you’ll have to check with your individual policy.
- In our experience, smokers that invest financially in the program (i.e. pay for it themselves) have an extra incentive to quit and thereby are more successful in quitting.
Weight Loss
- Acupuncture is a great adjunct to a committed weight loss program.
- It is not a magic pill or panacea but it can make it easier to lose weight and maintain that weight loss.
- It does help with cravings, increasing metabolism, improving digestion, improving elimination and helping to decrease stress, frustration and anxiety that often leads to unhealthy eating.
- While everyone is different a good place to start is a minimum of 3 auricular treatments per week for at least 2 weeks.
- There is no guarantee that Acupuncture will be a miracle cure but if a patient is self motivated, willing to take the suggestions offered by the Acupuncture Physician, make necessary lifestyle changes, nutritional changes and commit to a suitable exercise program, there is a good chance for successful weight management.
Addiction
- Acupuncture is not a quick fix but can provide support during acute and post-acute withdrawal from alcohol, heroin, cocaine, and other drugs through relief of classic symptoms.
- Acupuncture has been found to be a useful entry point into treatment especially for resistant individuals.
- Acupuncture has been found to help with relapse prevention.
- Each individual is different but if one is committed to change and healing, this might be the extra support needed for success.
General Stress Reduction
- From a Chinese Medicine perspective, stress, like other symptoms that may arise, stem from an imbalance in the system.
- The goal of Acupuncture is to allow the body to reassert control and heal from a place of balance.
- Stress manifests itself in many ways. Common symptoms are headache, backache, skin disorders, gastric problems and sleeping disorders. Psychological symptoms may include depression, anxiety, poor concentration, poor memory and loss of self confidence. There is mounting evidence that chronic stress can lead to long term health problems.
- With Acupuncture, the practitioner works to determine where the stress is coming from in a person’s life and helps to alleviate the symptoms.
- While many individuals turn to drugs, alcohol, food and prescription medications to deal with stress, Acupuncture can offer a safe way to help the body manage stress and provide a feeling of well-being and calmness.
- Although, Acupuncture cannot change the circumstance of your life, it can relieve feelings of anxiety and depression, which may be serious handicaps for people trying to cope with difficult domestic, social and work problems.
- It can give a person a feeling of tranquility and self-confidence.
- During treatments, you will find yourself relaxed in the sacred space of the treatment room, the light will be soft and soothing music will reach your ears allowing you to drift into a peaceful state.
- Emotionally speaking, most patients feel relaxed, energetic or even cheerful after treatment.
- Patients should begin to see improvement within 3-5 treatments. Most experience changes after their first treatment, unless there are more serious underlying health problems.
